Google Search Tips and Strategies

Wow!  Am I glad to find this information!  This homework assignment gives me the exact info I want and did not know how to find.  I had already intuited some of it but there were many things I did not know.  That was the surprising part of this assignment.  I need to go back through it and take notes on some of the details.  Also, I want to use it as instruction for my students.  Teaching it will help me learn it better.  And I'll bet that I have at least one student who will know much of this and can give me some tips.  But I am concerned that I will not be able to access UTube at my school because the UTube videos were very helpful.

HW due 10/6: Library of Congress

Hello,

Well, I navigated around the Library of Congress site and I was impressed with how much is available.

One of my thoughts about using this website with my Special Ed high school students was that my students do not usually get that deep and specific in their research.  In general, my students are slower in their processing speeds so we are looking at the broad view in my World History class, hoping to finish the book so that we get the whole picture.  However, because Washington, DC is not likely to be one of our field trips, it would be great for them to see online some of the original documents such as the Declaration of Independence.

Also, I did find information on the geography of Samoa and the recent tsunami there.  My students would be interested in that.

Another site I could use with my Special Ed English students was Poetry 180, A Poem for a Day for High School students.  One of my favorite poems was Do You Have Any Advice for Those of Us Just Starting Out.  The message was to stay in touch with your inner child.  I also liked the first poem Turtle.  I wanted to print out a copy but it said that you had to get the author's permission to print a copy.  I wondered if they could tell if you made a copy.  For instance, itunes lets me know they keep track of how many copies I make.  Is technology watching us?
